Another anniversary??
I guess we never end to celebrate 20th anniversaries here in the blog eh!?!!!
Well I wanted to talk today about a very special game (just like PSO) but for other reasons...that appeared in my life around shortly before summer 2005, today is February 14 valentines day and we were 20 years ago still playing a lot of PSOBB, in fact we were about to get ready to try at long last Episode IV which was released as an expansion at the time but at the same time something else was brewing at SEGA and not exactly was PSU as I thought it was gonna be.

Oh no no it was gonna be something completely different ....
it was a brand new MMORPG called "RF Online" bound to be released very soon with an Open Beta Kicking off that summer....
SEGA at the time was gearing up to release the game and there was an incredible teaser site up with a showcase of the 3 races and elements of the game, sadly this one is lost of the internet archive so I cannot record it for you.
THe game was presented as SF Action RF Online, with this slogan it was exciting I remember I saw the game as a PSO for more mature audiences but I wanted to try it too!! and the fact many japanese guys in the PSO lobby began to talk about it and i could only see (as my japanese knowledge was none at the time)
sdoafjnsdofijf RF online!!
dsafoijsdof RF dsaiojdoisjd.
dsads RF defdf?????
fdsajifojdsfiosdjfosfd!!!
A very strange way to hype a game....
We had a little group of friends in PSOBB at the time with 2 english players that stayed playing with us, one of them called Tancients and another called Phoenix and then me, the 3 of us decided to jump into the RF Open Beta in the Ater server that summer and we were blown away.

The game was the first I played where you could actually kill another player, the concept of PvP, PK and the concept of a Korean Grind and such I learned it all here, well...we learned it the hard way you could say.... getting ganked is not fun when you are just trying to level up against very difficult monsters.
I learned a little Katakana from PSOBB but my japanese was still very bad to tackle this game but Tancients helped us with the traslations as this game was VERY hardcore with the kanjis too
But it was an unforgetable experience. A very unique concept, it was also an incredible Tokyo Game Show 2005 where it was the 2nd biggest online title being shown besides PSU and the convention where I got hyped the most of all the cool things that were about to come!!

Ulitmately we had to stop playing shortly after the beta after the TGS because the License for RF Online was prohibitely expensive for all of us (3000 yen a month vs PSOBB's 1050ish a month), it felt like a really premium game for sure...
Many things happened after this opening a new path of stories which also got interwined with my first experience playing Lineage II as well as RF again via private servers, I will write in a later post...

I feel like setting up a private server for it too to celebrate its 20th here at Kiyomizu too like the PSO server, im doing some research if it can be done or not but i dont have too many high hopes as this game is also non-solo friendly, really requires a lot of people online to make it work.
Cat... did you forgot to level up your PT's to their max at the same time as your level???

Yes...but I think i can recover and catch up with you guys
Cat...no, you have to remake the character from scratch and start all over...
BUT BUT WAIT BUT HOW!?!? WHY!!!???
Cat..you just locked yourself out of the game lol

Worth it
Being less and less interested in mainstream gaming I decided since like a year ago embrace the hell of Gacha anime games, and as I wrote before I've been playing this tactical military game called Girls Frontline 2, to this day I still continue playing this game on a daily basis.

And to my surprise I started to get into the game a lot lately! when was the last time I was looking forward to play a game so much? and even more a Gacha game???, these games I usually consider them little time killers that offer Events or Stories to watch like a Visual Novel rather to enjoy them too much for their gameplay (or lack thereof) but this time was different...
SO I made my very first purchase in a mobile game! just 1500 yen worth of a weapon pass to get some extra resources in the game to level up the dolls even more, is nothing fancy but it kinda goes against my previous policy of treat mobile games as entirely free to play games....

But for the amount of fun and joy this little game brought lately? I guess it's fair... at least give this small money in exchange...
BUT CAT BE CAREFUL WITH THESE GAMES THERE ARE DANGEROUS!!!
Is like a casino isn't it?
Yes cat but it's okay If you have fun I think it's OK too!
A little bit of thrill in life doesn't hurt from time to time too?
A small 'thrill' cat? your whole fucking life is a fucking thrillercoaster!!!!

Oh shut up....

play with dolls...
Last couple of days without writing much, needed to take a break from all the bullshit I had to go through last week, let's hope this week becomes much more quieter.

So in the meantime I wanted to write about how I recently started to play this new game called Girls Fronline 2 Exilium back in January, it was a little surprise!! , the game has become quite a little controversial because of various reasons regarding waifus, chinese psyops, chinks, and crying chuds, but it's a solid game that kinda reminds me a lot to a mix between XCOM with the original Metal Gear Acid which I played a lot during the PSP days.
There's a proper game loop here and is just not another mindless gacha that is only for show or as a pure Visual Novel.

You are supposed to control a group of dolls in a grid and fight against a variety of foes or other dolls taking turns, there are controls and switches to press to turn the tides of the battle to your favor, the difficulty isn't too high but considering its a chinese game they will want to milk everyone as much as they can so I think this game difficulty will become very brutal once more and more people begin to play.
The story is excellent so does the fan service is excellent too!! (including weapon play if you are a gun otaku)
I guess you might be wondering who was the one in the new splash screen at the main kiyomizu website!!
Joking aside, if you need something to disconnect your brain of the current insanity give it a try to this game~

Quiet afternoon....
The week started a little hectic with all the sudden announcements of the New World Government approaching and me going full menhera about it more than usual, but I was also checking a bit of my Steam Library backlog and shuffling around so far I've been just playing Fate Stay/night (the remaster/remake of Realta Nua) in those dead moments in the day when i'm just idling around....

I haven't finished the anime yet but I'm just playing the game at the same time to fill in the gaps the first season of the anime might have missed, there are many small details lost in the conversion but nothing major.
So in a way i'm kinda re-reading the same story like 3 times at the same time, yet someone on X mentioned that the very best way to get started with the series was to just watch the original 2006 anime (which I did already) and I regret nothing about it.

But anyways alligator I'm checking out for today glad no crazy stuff happened.

pupupupupu......
As I was busy dealing with server shenanigans this week with the migration to the new host and all that, totally forgot Spike Chunsoft was running an insane sale of all their games until end of the month celebrating their 40th anniversary ( I didnt know they were actually THAT old to begin with even when they were separated...),

they are running insane deals as much as ~$80 discounts at bundles that usually costs 100 so we are talking real serious savings here, Dangaronpa, Memories, Ai, Shiren, Steins Gate and more!

If you want to become menhera like me and enjoy some fine screaming with/at Monokuma take a look at their page on Steam, I think its very worth it!!
